The House in Fata Morgana is a visual novel video game developed by Novectacle, released in 2012. Set in a mansion, where a spirit appears with amnesia. It meets a Maid in the mansion, and the two view the mansion's past in different time periods – 1603, 1707, 1869 and 1099 – to learn what has happened to its residents and to try to get the spirit to regain its lost memories.

E01 Door 1

The year is 1603, and roses from all across the world bloom abundantly in the mansion's garden. The Rhodes siblings, Nellie and Mell, have been blessed with a life of luxury, and Nellie adores her kindhearted older brother, calling him her prince. From the outside, it would seem the two have a bright future ahead of them. However...

The year is 1707, and the mansion lies in ruins, a ferocious beast taking up residence in the once beautiful property. The beast, hungry and alone, tells the Maid he merely wishes to live in peace. But before long, he loses control of his innate savagery, and a massacre ensues. Elsewhere, in a city overlooking the sea, a young woman named Pauline sets out in search of her lover after learning he has supposedly died in a shipwreck.

The year is 1869, and the world is changing rapidly. Technology has seen unimaginable leaps as a result of the Second Industrial Revolution. One young investor in the rail industry named Jacopo is so engrossed in his work he neglects his wife. The year is 1099. The Maid tells You this is the final door. A young man lives alone in the mansion, when a girl, exhausted and on the run, stumbles upon the house. The man cautions her that he is cursed, but the White-Haired Girl does not heed his warnings, insisting on remaining at the mansion. Tragedy befalls them, enthralling in its beauty. And should You so desire, You may look back upon what You have been shown, for hidden in the cracks, perhaps You will find intentions less than honorable.

At long last, You have reclaimed Your old self—Michel, the young man from behind the fourth door. However, the Maid has yet to regain her memories of being Giselle, the woman he loved. So in order to bring her back, Michel opens the door to their past. The previous tale appears before them once more, this time free of manipulation. Together, they witness the truth—the things they gained, and the things they lost...

Fraught with despair at the sight of Michel's broken body, Giselle hears the voice of the witch. She succumbs to the witch's temptations, agreeing to spend eternity in the mansion with her as the Maid. Weathered away by hundreds of long years in darkness, the once cheerful Giselle slowly begins breaking down—and the appearance of the White-Haired Girl only serves to accelerate her decay.

"You're disgusting." Her revulsion at the secret Michel kept from her for so long causes his soul to sink into eternal darkness. As he floats there in the void, the door to his own past opens, forcing him to once more face his truth. Born neither male nor female, Michel was called cursed, subjected to a life of unspeakable cruelty. Nevertheless, he was steadfast in his insistence that he was a man—and a normal human.

Having overcome his weakness, Michel is now determined to save Morgana and cast off the mansion's dark miasma. Together with Giselle's soul, he opens the final door—the door to Morgana's past.
